Awanda Hansen

Awanda May (Meservy) Hansen, 91, of Pocatello, rejoined her eternal companion David E. Hansen (d. 1997), on Wednesday, August 3. She passed of causes incident to advanced age, being 91. She was born, the only daughter of Sarah Ann (Bagley) and James Alonzo Meservy near St. Anthony, ID on May 13, 1920. She was predeceased by five male siblings. She married David E. Hansen in the Logan LDS Temple on November 8, 1938. As newlyweds they moved to the north end of Teton Valley Idaho where they farmed. In 1956 they moved to Burley, ID, and there they watched their children grow to maturity. Despite financial struggles and health trials, Awanda always retained a positive outlook and remarkable sense of humor. When a grandson gave her a raspberry kiss on the cheek at her 91st birthday party, she said "Wow! I think you had better take half of that back!" She served in the LDS Church and in the community throughout her life. For at least a decade following retirement, she and Dave served as ordinance workers in the Logan LDS Temple. While Dave was alive, they served three LDS missions of 18 month each in West Virginia, Georgia, and Canada. After Dave's passing, she served additional missions at the LDS Family History Center in Salt Lake City, UT, and at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, UT. In 1990, Ricks College, now BYU Idaho, Department of Family Living honored Awanda and David as "Exemplary Family of the Year." She was preceded in death by her husband David E. Hansen; brothers James, Harold, Lon , Lynn, and Nile Meservy; granddaughters Tracy Ann Clemons and Tammy Grunig Awanda is survived by six children: Norma Jean and Fred Clemons; Dr. Warren and Lydia Hansen; Eileen and Dr. Daniel Ferguson; Ray and Susan Hansen; Grant and Tina Hansen; and Reed and Mary Anne Hansen. Twenty-eight of her thirty grandchildren survive her, together with a joyous chorus of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff at Quail Ridge Assisted Living Center, Alliance Hospice and to Dr. LaVonne Mills for service and kindnesses rendered to our dear mother. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 10 with a visitation at 10:00 A.M. at the Princeton L.D.S. Church located at 42 Princeton in Pocatello. Interment will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Burley, Idaho Cemetery.
