Clara Ward

August 10, 1917 — December 25, 2008

Clara Egbert Ward, age 91, of Felt, Idaho, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2008 at the Ashton Memorial Nursing Home in Ashton, Idaho.

Clara was born August 10, 1917 in Valview, Idaho to Hyrum Edzell and Marion Morgan Egbert. On November 25, 1936, she married Leonard Ward in the Logan, Utah Temple. The couple made their home in Felt, Idaho, where they farmed and raised their family of five children. Leonard passed away on March 11, 1969.

In approximately 1962 she and her husband purchased the Felt Store and Post Office, which they ran until his death 7 years later. As a widow, she supplemented her income by working for the Teton School District as a cook. She loved the children and they loved her. She also worked at the Best Western Motel in Driggs.

Clara was a fantastic cook and was always baking bread and sharing it with her neighbors and friends. She loved dancing and music and was able to play the piano by ear. As a teenager, she was recruited by her uncle, Richard Egbert, to play the piano in his dance band. She was an active member of the L.D.S. Church, serving in many callings. In 1989 she served as a Family History Missionary in Salt Lake City, UT.

She is survived by her children: LaRell (Nicole) Ward serving an L.D.S. Mission in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Stan (Brenda) Ward of Provo, Utah; Janet (Douglas) McCombie of Blackfoot, Idaho; Deanna (Randy) Talbot of Felt, Idaho and Blair (Lorrie) Ward serving an L.D.S. Mission in Quito, Ecuador; 3 brothers: Alan Egbert of Nampa, Idaho; James Egbert of Driggs, Idaho and Irwin Egbert of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 2 sisters: Marjorie O'Brien of Rexburg, Idaho and Connie Hammond of Providence, Utah; 25 grandchildren and 78 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, 1 grandchild and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tetonia L.D.S. Church. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2008 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at the church and then from 9 - 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be in the Cache-Clawson Cemetery.
