Francis Eugene "Gene" Lewis

Francis Eugene “Gene” Lewis, age 84, passed away Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026. A 5th generation TN Lewis, he was born in Jefferson City, TN on Oct 29 1941. Early in life, Gene’s family went where the Lord took his father as a Methodist minister in Western Virginia and East Tennessee. At 18, Gene joined the Air Force, with stops in Texas, Turkey, then on to the Pentagon. He retired as a Sargent, specializing in communications. After his service, he met Brenda Rhea Cate while selling Saladmaster cookware. He proposed the day they met, and together, they enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage. Gene followed the Lord’s call to move to Teton Valley in 1979, and successfully kept his Southern accent, as well as many Tennessee Walking horses. On Sept 19, 1981 Gene and Brenda were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. Once out “West” Gene worked at Delmar’s fixing appliances and installing carpet, Fall River Electric, Teton Valley Reality, and retired while working for the US Postal Service. He had a passion for tennis, golf, UT football, teaching Sunday School, missionary work, raising horses, and the great outdoors. His stories are legend, and legendarily long. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Gene was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Francis Willard Lewis and Virginia Sue Peck, and his older brother Harry Edgar Lewis. Gene is survived by his wonderful wife Brenda; his sister Marilyn Sue Lewis Dyer; Sister-In-Law Geraldine Lewis; nephews and cousins; daughter Theresa; son Francis Eugene Lewis Jr(wife Tamara, and their children Leah, Brandon, and Alexander); and son James Christopher Lewis(wife JoAnne, and their children Spencer(wife RaeAnn and their daughter Lilly), Morgan Bradt(husband Jaiden), Jarod, Daniel, Sam, and Isaac). Our family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday February 12th and Friday from 12 to 12:45 PM at the LDS Chapel in Victor. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday, February 13, 2026 at the LDS chapel in Victor, ID (87 E Center St), with Bishop Ben Kearsley officiating. Following that, Gene’s burial will be at the Cedron Cemetery.
