George L. Knight

September 3, 1949 — March 28, 2026

George Lyle Knight, a man of steadfast faith and profound love for others, passed away in his home with his faithful dog Mina by his side, in Tetonia, Idaho on March 28, 2026.

Born September 3, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas to Lyle F. and Rula N. Knight, George lived a life defined by a desire to learn, teach, and create.

He grew up active in the outdoors, playing sports and learning to love the airplanes his father flew for the United States Air Force. He was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At the age of 19, he served a faithful two-year mission for the Church in London, England. He often told stories of his character building experiences on his mission.

Following his mission, he pursued his education at Brigham Young University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology, followed by a master’s in organizational behavior in 1976.

On August 7, 1972, George married Jann Miskin in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they built a beautiful and loving home and welcomed four children into the world: Jeremy, Melissa, Meggan, and Jordan. They love their children more than anything.

Professionally, George built a successful and impactful career in training and development, working for several companies, including Celanese Corporation, Hercules Aerospace, and InsideOut Development. George was a gifted educator, whose love for teaching extended well beyond the corporate world. He loved the classroom and shared his talents as an adjunct professor at BYU, Westminster College, and the University of Phoenix, where he was always a favorite of his students.

His passion for teaching and serving others was most evident in his devotion to his faith in the Savior. Throughout his life, George held numerous callings in the Church; serving in a bishopric and as a Sunday School teacher, Primary teacher, Young Men's advisor, and Scoutmaster. In his final years, he developed a deep passion for church history.

Later in life, George married Pamela Westgate on June 21, 2000. Pam and George built a lovely life together in South Jordan, Utah. Pam came with six children: Stephanie, Priscilla, JT, Cydney, Gardner and Daphne. George loved Pam’s kids as if they were his own.

George was a man of wonderfully diverse interests—he always had a passion project. He enjoyed the outdoors and found peace camping, hiking and backpacking in the rugged beauty of the Tetons and the Wasatch Range. He loved animals and was especially fond of horses, dogs and chickens. A sports fan, he could always be counted on to cheer for his beloved BYU and the Boston Red Sox. He instilled in his children a deep appreciation for music, which he loved. Some of his favorites were The Doors, The Beatles, Lyle Lovett, and James Taylor. George also loved a good laugh and delighted in classic comedies like The Blues Brothers, 1949, and 1970’s Saturday Night Live sketch comedy—he cried like a baby when John Belushi died.

Above all places, George was most at home at "the Ranch" in Teton Valley. He held a deep reverence for the valley and its history. His immense creativity, inventive spirit and craftsmanship can be seen in the creations he built all over the Ranch—these are tangible reminders of his personality and creative spirit that his family will cherish for years.

George is survived by his loving children: Jeremy Knight (Emilee), Melissa Saunders (Scott), Meggan Adams (Aaron), and Jordan Knight (Chelsea); his sister, Debbie Williams (Gary); and his brother, Jim Knight (Liz) and 12 grandkids. He is preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Knight; his parents, Lyle F. and Rula N. Knight; and a premature born daughter, Jann Michelle Knight.

He leaves behind a legacy of teaching, service, laughter, and a reminder to always leave a place more beautiful—and more interesting—than you find it.
