Shannon Renee Herndon

Shannon Renee Herndon (Thomas), 55, of Teton Valley, Idaho, passed away on September 25, 2025. She was born on May 30, 1970, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Ronald and Norma Thomas. 

Shannon grew up in Treynor, Iowa, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Monte Vista, Colorado, graduating from Monte Vista High School in 1988. She later attended and graduated from the Denver Institute of Art, where she pursued her love of photography. Early in her career, she worked as a photographer, with one of her proudest accomplishments being a photo taken for the Storm King Mountain Memorial Fundraiser. 

She was also a member of the Wyoming Interagency Hot Shots Fire Team, serving alongside her brother Mike. Shannon was deeply proud of this work and the service it provided. 

On November 26, 2000, Shannon married Shawn Herndon on St. Mary’s Peak in Colorado. Together they built a life in Telluride, Colorado, and later settled in Teton Valley, Idaho. Of all her roles, Shannon was most proud of being a devoted mother to her two sons, Taylor and Jacob. In Teton Valley, she worked at the Teton Club, Teton Springs, and Two Ocean Builders. Her kindness, dedication, and friendships left a lasting impact on the community she loved. 

Shannon is survived by her husband, Shawn; her son, Taylor of Pullman, Washington; her son, Jacob of Teton Valley; her parents, Ronald and Norma Thomas of Treynor, Iowa; her sister and brother-in-law, Elynn and Michael Malone of Lincoln, Nebraska; and her brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Terra Thomas of Dayton, Wyoming. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Glenn and Lillian Husz of Treynor, Iowa, and Stanley and Gertrude Thomas of rural Council Bluffs, Iowa. 

Shannon’s final resting place will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Treynor, Iowa. Shannon will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her love for her family, and the deep pride she took in both her service and her role as a mother.
