Thomas Stodola

d. November 22, 2008

Thomas Jerome Stodola, 56, died on November 22, 2008, following a three and a half year battle with cancer. Tom and his wife, Nancy, owned and operated the Grand Victorian Lodge in downtown Jackson, arriving here in 2004. Tom thoroughly enjoyed the grandeur of God's creation so visible in the great state of Wyoming. Tom began earthly life on March 8, 1952, the proud son of Jerry and Bernadette Stodola. Tom demonstrated his character and competence early in life, becoming an Eagle Scout at the age of 17. He married Nancy on May 18, 1991, beginning not only their married life, but business life too. Tom was an accomplished and certified chef, receiving his culinary degree from Schoolcraft College in Detroit, Michigan. Following his apprenticeship at Detroit's Weston International Hotel, Tom became the executive chef at St. John's Medical Center in Gross Pointe, Michigan. After his marriage, Tom and Nancy began their business career, purchasing a family restaurant in Grand Marais, Michigan. After six years of successful operation, they moved to Bear Lake, Michigan, operating the Bella Vista Motel there until their move to Jackson. Tom's culinary expertise fit the Bed and Breakfast genre perfectly, winning a place in the 2008 Wyoming Cookbook with one of his exquisite breakfast recipes. Tom had many interests beyond cooking, including scuba diving, traveling, reading, fly fishing, hiking, car drives, and entertaining family and friends. If asked, however, Tom would tell you that his two greatest loves were his wife and his Savior, Jesus Christ. He lived out his love and faith as a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson, serving on fellowship and event planning committees. He was also a member of the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce and a faithful supporter of the Airport Board and other civic organizations. Tom now resides in his final, heavenly home that was prepared for him by Jesus Christ. Tom is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Jackson, parents Jerry and Bernadette Stodola of Florida, brothers Tim of Colorado and Dan of Illinois, and his sister, Kathy of Michigan, stepson Dean, currently residing in South Korea, and stepson Todd, his wife, Jennifer, and children, Annika and Bridger of Jackson. A tribute service for Tom is planned for the first weekend of April 2009. Notes of condolence may be sent to Nancy at PO Box 464, Jackson, WY 83001. Memorial donations should be given directly to First Baptist Church, PO Box 1167, Jackson, WY 83001. The family wishes to thank those who never stopped praying or giving of themselves through visitation, food, cards, flowers, gifts, and acts of service. Tom truly appreciated your care for him during his final earthly days and for your ongoing care for Nancy. May God continue to bless each of you.
